Empowerment

“The potential possibilities of any child are the most intriguing and stimulating in all creation” — Ray L. Wilbur, third president of Stanford University

Every human being has a need to feel empowered and to feel confident. Being empowered in some sort of way gives you the confidence and boldness to take on whatever challenge(s) that are before you.

This is what Being Empowered means and it does to the mindset of any human beings. It is the same with children, they do need to feel empowered and by using empowerment programs and services, this in turn helps to build and develop boldness, confidence, courage, teamwork and as such provide a pathway to build and develop leadership qualities and characteristics. So when you support and help us in our efforts, you’re not only equipping these children with a future filled with unlimited possibilities, but you’re also creating a positive ripple effect in the lives of children and the communities in which they live in. This is what it means to Change Children’s Lives Through One Project at a Time

WHY CONCENTRATE ON EMPOWERMENT?

Now that you have addressed the Education needs, you have addressed the Health and Medical needs and Nutrition needs, it is time to hit the homerun with the last two components Empowerment and Employment come into play. This is where being empowered means that much to children.

Imagine how hard it would be to motivate yourself to make a change if you were faced with seemingly impossible circumstances and the odds are against you. In many of the communities where our sponsored children live, it’s easy to see why children might succumb to hopelessness, feeling like their choices can’t make a difference.

To be able to break the cycle of poverty, children first have to believe that it is possible not to be another statistic and that they have power over their future. With your help and support, we’re overcoming disillusionment to help children become empowered citizens of their country and the world at large with practical life skills — skills that are put into action to tackle poverty for themselves and their communities.

HOW DO CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM YOUR SUPPORT?

Using art, music, sports, community service and peer education

We focus on
developing important life skills, like problem-solving, decision-making, creative and
critical thinking, communication and interpersonal skills, coping with emotions and
stress, conflict resolution, appreciating diversity. The result: positive effects that ripple
out and impact others’ lives.

We help build leadership skills

And provide children with hands-on opportunities to show
off what they’ve learned: spearheading neighborhood cleanup initiatives, developing
community literacy programs, creating micro-enterprises and helping change views
on gender equality.

We use a proven curriculum

To provide social and financial education — self-awareness,
personal responsibility, social skills, money management and the basics of business.

We teach children how to create solutions

For community problems, such as
anti-bullying campaigns and improvements of public spaces like parks or schools

We help build the belief that children can change

Their personal situations and their
communities for the better and that they have the skills to do so.
